Work continues on Kirklees College’s new campus at Huddersfield’s Waterfront Quarter.

The development, which covers 24,000 square metres, will replace the current campus on New North Road. The new building is due to open to students in September 2012.
The College have appointed project manager Ray Sheller, who has 40 years experience in the construction industry including work on educational projects, to lead the ‘Vision’ development. He commented:
“It was great to see work begin on the site in November. At the moment we are preparing the site for construction. Stripping out the internal fixtures and fittings at West Riding House has now commenced which will be followed by work to the retaining wall along Manchester Road before the actual building can be demolished. Excavations are also underway to allow ground conditions to be verified.
In the New Year we will commence demolition of the existing Portakabin units and the Print Services building enabling us to clear the site ready for the main building works to start in May.”
Kirklees College is receiving £54 million of investment from the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) for the new campus.
