Huddersfield's £175m Waterfront Quarter Scheme has been given the go ahead. Plans for the major mixed-use regeneration project in the centre of Huddersfield were approved by Kirklees Council.
Strategic Sites, who will act as lead developer, are working in partnership with RCD and have responsibility for delivering the £175m scheme.
The development, known as the Waterfront Quarter, will take place on a six-acre site on the edge of Huddersfield town centre and will comprise a purpose-built 300,000 sq ft campus for Kirklees College, 190,000 sq ft of commercial offices including a new office building for Kirklees Council. In addition there will be upto 300 new homes, together with cafes, bars and other leisure facilities.
A riverside walk and the opening up of the recently renovated Huddersfield Narrow Canal will create green open space for the public.
Two pedestrian bridges are proposed - one of the bridge designs boasts a striking towering structure already christened The Spike.
